About FARMA
FARMA, the National Farmers' Retail & Markets Association, is a co-operative of farmers, producers selling on a local scale, and farmers' markets organisers.
FARMA works throughout the UK and is the largest organisation of its type in the world, representing direct sales to customers through farm shops, Pick-Your-Own, farmers' markets, home delivery, on-farm catering, and farm entertainment.
FARMA inspects farm retail and farmers' markets to ensure that they are 'the real thing'.
FARMA is a cooperative of over 700 members and is the largest organisation of its type in the world. The Association began in 1979 as the Farm Shop & PYO Association, which renamed to the Farm Retail Association in 1994. Lloyds Europa was appointed as external managing agents of the FRA in 1998 and grew the membership from approximately 100 to over 500.
In 2003 the National Association of Farmers' Farmers' Markets (NAFM) merged with the FRA to create the National Farmers' Retail & Markets Association (FARMA), adding approx. 250 farmers' markets members to the fold. FARMA is a membership-driven and -funded organisation, and our members come first.
At the FARMA office we recieve thousands of enquiries a month from our members (and non-members), each dealt with on an individual, 1-on-1 basis. The team at Lloyds Europa have years of experience working with and steering the sector, as well as many more years of PR, marketing, strategic and management experience. FARMA aims to promote the farm retailing sector on a national basis, both in news-media and in political circles, and has been instrumental in driving, and responding to, the current popularity of local foods in the media, recieving dozens of press enquiries a week.
